With BITS, the Ministry of Defence, the Ministry of Economic Affairs, the province of North Brabant, Brainport Development, and the Brabant Development Agency (BOM) strengthen the earning capacity of businesses and the province of North Brabant and contribute to the security and resilience of the Netherlands.
Due to shifts in geopolitical power relations, threats are coming closer. That's why, as a society, we are increasingly focusing on security. How can Brabant, as an innovative technological leader, contribute to a safe and resilient society where we can live comfortably, ensuring we maintain our strategic autonomy and thus continue to have access to sufficient raw materials, food, and energy?
In 2023, this ambition was given a concrete form with BITS (Brainport Innovation & Technology Security). A collaboration between the Ministry of Defence, the Ministry of Economic Affairs, the province of North Brabant, Brainport Development, and the Brabant Development Agency. The choice to start in Brabant is obvious. A significant factor is the innovative nature of the region. Additionally, Defence is the second-largest employer in the province and is active in many areas in Brabant. BITS originated from Brainport but is not region-bound.
