Comfortable treatment for breast cancer patients
Sirius Medical has developed the Sirius Pintuition® technology, a wireless and non-radioactive navigation system that helps surgeons accurately locate breast cancer tumors during breast-conserving surgeries. This patient-friendly method uses magnetic markers instead of radioactive ones, resulting in a more comfortable treatment for patients and a more sustainable alternative for hospitals.
Long-term collaboration
The investment round was led by Invest-NL and Nextgen Ventures, with participation from De Groot Family Office. Existing investors including BOM, Holland Capital, Curie Capital, Team Holmium, and the Sirius Medical team itself also participated.
As one of the first investors, BOM has been closely involved in the development of Sirius Medical since 2018. Over the past several years, the company has evolved into a successful medtech scale-up with an international customer base extending across America, Australia, and almost all of Europe. The entry of new partners into the investment syndicate provides Sirius Medical with the opportunity to further accelerate its growth and global expansion.
"We are proud to support Sirius Medical in this crucial expansion phase," says Albertien Greijdanus, senior investment manager at BOM. "Their innovative technology improves care for breast cancer patients worldwide. The positive impact of their innovation on the treatment pathway is impressive. It is fantastic to see how their solution truly makes a difference in the care process and contributes to affordable and future-proof healthcare."
Enabling successful scaling
Securing financing in the medtech sector is a complex and challenging process. The high development costs, long development cycles, and strict regulations deter investors. Due to the lack of financing, many promising medtech startups fail to grow into scale-ups. The financing secured by Sirius Medical demonstrates that despite the challenges, there are opportunities for medtech startups and scale-ups to grow and succeed in their mission, as long as a significant clinical need is met.
The investment in Sirius Medical highlights the importance of a robust ecosystem for the growth and financing of innovative, impactful enterprises. BOM is proud to play a key role in this ecosystem and is committed to continuing to support innovative startups and scale-ups to accelerate social transitions together.
