Med Tech & Life Sciences

Healthcare is under pressure. The dual ageing trend − a growing elderly population that is also living longer − is driving up the demand for care. At the same time, the sector is facing an increasing shortage of healthcare professionals. How can we keep healthcare vital, effective, and affordable? Brabant offers solutions. With strong clusters in Med Tech, Life Sciences, and Health Tech, our region is the place for healthcare innovation. BOM accelerates these innovations and strengthens Brabant’s position as a frontrunner in the healthcare of the future.

A Healthy Future

What BOM does

Smart healthcare innovations are key to keeping healthcare vital, effective, and affordable. But a good idea alone isn’t enough. That’s why we support entrepreneurs in bringing their innovations to market − and to patients − faster. We do this with a proven approach: developing, investing, and internationalising. Through these three core competencies, we work together with entrepreneurs, knowledge partners, and investors to build a healthy future.

BOM provides targeted support, invests in early-stage companies, and opens international doors. Each year, we support dozens of startups through venture development programmes and HealthtechXL. We build ecosystems such as the Smart BioMaterials Consortium and the Patchfabriek, and connect entrepreneurs with knowledge institutions, hospitals, and international clusters. This way, we ensure innovations reach patients faster − and keep Brabant at the forefront of European healthcare.

Why Brabant?

Brabant has everything it takes to develop and implement healthcare innovations:

  • An internationally competitive Med Tech cluster, with Eindhoven as its epicenter. More than 330 companies are working on diagnostics, regenerative medicine, medical instruments, and robotics.
  • A strong Life Sciences ecosystem centered around Pivot Park in Oss, home to companies like Acerta Pharma, BioConnection, MSD, and Organon. Together, they provide thousands of jobs and hold a leading position in biotech and pharmaceutical development.
  • A growing Health Tech community focused on driving systemic change in healthcare: new business models, cultural transformation, and prevention.

From idea to application

Each year, we support dozens of startups and scale-ups in Med Tech, Life Sciences, and Health Tech. For example, through:

  • – New – BioVenture Building – for early-stage Life Sciences startups
  • Regenerative Therapies Programme – focused on smart biomaterials
  • HealthtechXL – for digital healthcare innovations

We make sure entrepreneurs grow faster with sharp business development, IP strategy, leadership, and fundraising. All with one goal in mind: getting your innovation to the patient.

Ecosystems that accelerate innovation

Innovation doesn’t happen in isolation. BOM builds ecosystems where companies, knowledge institutions, and healthcare partners collaborate on concrete solutions. Here’s a glimpse of our approach:

Med Tech: from biomaterials to real-world applications

In the Smart BioMaterials Consortium, companies and research institutions work together on smart materials that help the body heal itself. Think regenerative medicine that goes beyond treating symptoms – it activates the body’s own healing processes. At the Patchfabriek, an initiative within OP-Zuid, medical applications take shape – literally. Entrepreneurs develop their products, test them in real-world settings, and prepare them for production.
We connect Brabant innovations with global players and bring together knowledge, capital, and technology in concrete venture building programmes.

Life Sciences: from lab to life

Oss is home to the heart of Brabant’s Life Sciences sector: Pivot Park. Over 70 companies and 1,000 professionals work here on new medicines and biotech applications. BOM is closely involved in this hotspot and invests in the companies making a difference. Through the Pharma Manufacturing Cluster (PMC), we connect major pharmaceutical companies with startups, creating a value chain where knowledge and production capacity reinforce each other – from molecule to medicine. We focus on valorisation: applying academic knowledge in practice. Because a breakthrough in the lab only makes an impact when it reaches the patient.

Health Tech: healthcare that adapts

At Living Lab Helmond, healthcare innovations are tested in real-life settings. Tech companies and care institutions co-create solutions that truly work – from smart sensors to digital monitoring. Through Zorg voor Innoveren, we help entrepreneurs navigate regulations and scale up. Because a good product belongs in healthcare, not on the shelf. With the European programme Interreg ACE, we’re building the home care of the future. We develop business cases that show how digital care can be affordable and accessible – for both caregivers and patients. We bring stakeholders together, organise meetups, and build networks around meaningful innovations.

Investing in growth

We invest in companies shaping the future of healthcare. Through European programmes like Interreg NWE and ACE, we enable international growth with capital, expertise, and access to new markets.

Opening international doors

Brabant innovations deserve a global stage. BOM collaborates with clusters such as Medical Alley (Minnesota) and Texas Medical Center, organises business missions, knowledge sessions, and matchmaking events, and offers soft landing support for foreign companies. This is how we ensure Brabant remains at the forefront of European healthcare innovation.
