Water; within 5 years an obstacle for the (Brabant) economy

January 15, 2025
The recently published ‘Action Program for the Availability of Drinking Water Sources 2023-2030’ by provinces, drinking water companies, and the Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management underscores the urgent importance of critically examining the availability of water.

Water has a social, but also an unprecedented economic value. Besides energy, it is the only resource relevant to every form of economic activity. Both the availability of water and its quality are under acute pressure.

If you want to start working with water reuse, it also requires improved recovery of resources. When residual water streams become more concentrated, you are even further from a solution because it becomes increasingly difficult to dispose of them.

In recent months, BOM conducted an exploration among dozens of companies (including members of the WPB Water Platform Brabant), governments, knowledge institutions, and chain partners (including water boards and water companies) on the challenges and potential innovative solutions for deploying water circularly. The position paper that resulted from this serves as input for developing provincial policy.
