M.B. (Manja) Thiry (Chair)
Manja Thiry (1973) has extensive experience as an executive in the energy sector. She was, among other things, the general director of Eneco's heating company and before that a board member of Ennatuurlijk. After studying Industrial Engineering and Management at the University of Twente, she has held various roles at Philips, Nike, and Pon. The common theme in her career is organizing successful collaborations in a complex stakeholder landscape. She is a connector between both private and public parties. Manja is the chair of the Energiebank Nederland Foundation, an organization committed to combating energy poverty with a large group of volunteer energy coaches.
M.J.H. (Mark) Broekman
Mark Broekman (1973) has been active in the field of investment and innovation financing for over 20 years. The first 8 years, his focus was mainly on companies from the Brabant region. In the past 12 years, he has been advising companies throughout Europe with a strong focus on the Energy & Environment sector. After studying Technical Innovation Sciences with a mechanical engineering component at the Eindhoven University of Technology, Mark started as a consultant at Arthur Andersen. In 2003, he continued his career at one of the "big four", EY (Ernst & Young), where he was active in various management and consultancy roles.
In 2007, he joined the PNO Group where he was responsible for the strategy, business development, and expansion of the Energy & Environment expertise group, among other things. This expertise group has since grown into a full-fledged European company, EGEN, active in seven countries. In his role as Managing Director of EGEN Europe, he is responsible for a large group of enthusiastic consultants in Europe working on accelerating green innovation and investments in the energy transition. Additionally, he is responsible for overall subsidy acquisition at major accounts (network operators, energy producers, and developers) in the energy sector in the Netherlands.
R.R.C. (Roderick) Timmer
Roderick Timmer (1980) has been active for almost 20 years in the fields of energy markets, energy policy, and electricity supply security. After studying Business Economics with a focus on Financing at the University of Amsterdam, Roderick started at Nuon and began fundamental analyses of electricity markets and electricity trading with a specific focus on the interconnectors with the UK. He experienced the rise of wind and solar energy and its impact on the electricity grid and market up close. Nuon was acquired by Vattenfall and Roderick then joined Nuon's central works council. When Vattenfall moved its trading activities at the end of 2016, he decided to build an energy trading team himself at Cross Energy Trading in Amsterdam, focused on electricity, gas, and CO₂ trading.
In early 2024, Roderick founded Trio Energy, focusing on solutions around the energy trilemma: the balance between sustainability, supply security, and affordability. Due to his background in fundamental analysis of energy markets, the energy trilemma has always been of interest to him. Temporary mismatches between supply and demand are a normal phenomenon within the energy transition and energy markets. While the past 15 years showed an excess of electricity, the situation is changing at certain times of the year due to the combination of decarbonization, electrification, and the increase of weather-dependent generation capacity in Europe. This makes flexibility within the electricity system crucial for supply security and a higher share of renewable energy, and this is where Trio Energy's focus lies. In addition to his work at Trio Energy, Roderick conducts research on electricity supply security at Utrecht University and is active in various boards, including the Technical Economic Society.
